Well yesterday I spent the evening going to watch Sherlock Holmes and spent some quality time at the Miller house with Patrick. Somewhere within all that, we had good chats on always working for God. I was talking to Patrick about how I hope that I am well prepared to face an opportunity God has brought me to recently and even wondering myself if I was or not. Patrick talked with me for a while on how when God brings us to things, it is not always going to be easy. It is going to take work, but even more, it is going to take trust.
Work.
Got me thinking..of course.
In 1 Corinthians 3:9 it says we are God's fellow workers.
Therefore, I am always on the job.
I was reading a magazine after I got home from Patrick's last night and this paragraph about a lady's new job got me thinking even more:
"She is constantly waiting on a call from her boss. She makes sure that all her communication devices are powered up, activated, and just a hands reach away that she can be ready to receive instruction. While she does make some personal plans during work hours, she doesn't set them in stone. She is fully aware that her primary responsibility is to be ready to manage that which her boss assigns."
Wow, that is exactly how we should think of our job as a follower.
We should always be on call and available, no matter what we want or have planned already.
Don't get me wrong, partnering with Him doesn't mean having no plans and ambitions of your own. It means holding them loosely, always leaving room for "the word of the Lord" reshaping your purpose and aligning them with His own.
the funny part is though,
God doesn't need us to fulfill His purposes
but He still asks us; it is a privilege to work with Him.
Whether it is working with a special needs child, starting a Bible study, remaining single for a bit longer, or even, reaching out to those who hurt you, He's purposefully given you the honor of being the one He chose suited for a task that He has great plans for.
While the benefits may not be able to be seen now, they wait in the future for anyone who chooses to work for Him.
Therefore,
Have trust in Him that whatever it is He brings you to do, He will get you thought it. Not only that but you will get a bonus for it, and He promises us that:)
Also, trust in yourself because He trusts in you. He chose you to fulfill a plan of His, so obviously you are ready for whatever it entails. Just like Patrick told me, it is going to take more trust than it does work.
I love my boss, so I am going to be on call 24/7, willing, ready, and thankful.
